Season: 13 Episode: 186
Summary:
Is your church going woke? “A pastor doesn’t wake up one day and decide to become a heretic.” So, how do you know if your church is leaning toward liberal theology? Lance Cashion explains that we’re not necessarily talking about politics here. We’re discussing the slow fade from sound theology to liberal theology. Lance gives us the warning signs of what to look for if your church is replacing the authoritative word of God with human reason.

Question One
What does it mean to be liberal and why do we need to ask this question about our churches?
Question Two
I love the things we need to look for in order to identify how and why a church is going liberal, and it’s even better that they all start with C, so let’s go through this list and you can explain each one as I bring them up. The first one is:
Compromise: You said, “In a church, compromise is an attempt to morally relocate the difference between good and evil, and right and wrong somewhere in the middle.” This is an example of a middle ground fallacy. You can compromise some things, but you can’t compromise the truth. Can you expand on this?
Criticism: Why is being able to talk with church leadership about what the Bible says important?
Convictions: Why are convictions important and how do we even know what the convictions of a church are?
Question Three
I also like that you brought up Moralistic Therapeutic, which MTD is a worldview Barna discusses in the 2021/2022 AWI. What is this and why should it bye avoided?
Question Four
People say that Christians should not get involved in politics; that we shouldn’t be concerned with conservatives and liberals? What do you have to say to that?
Question Five
If someone finds themselves in a liberal church, what do you suggest they do?
