Season: 13 Episode: 186
Summary:
Do you follow your emotions and regret it later? How do you prepare to think so you aren’t manipulated by the propaganda you’ll see this election season? Christians often think that because God renews their minds by the word they don’t have to learn logic. Is that true? Kathy Gibbens, host of the Filter It Through a Brain Cell podcast, is on the show to talk about why it’s necessary to learn how to think. You’ll hear about the most common fallacies Shanda and Kathy encounter on social media, and they share their favorite resources for an introduction to logic.

About Kathy Gibbens
Kathy is a homeschool Mom who first learned about logical fallacies along with her 7th grade daughter. She quickly realized that this little-taught skill is essential for navigating all the crazy messages we are bombarded with by culture. So, she launched the Filter It Through a Brain Cell podcast, where she teaches critical thinking in short, fun episodes and is passionate about helping the next generation learn to think well and love God with their mind.
Question One
We previously spoke about the history of logic in American schools. Why don’t schools teach logic today? Is that strategic?
Question Two
Now that I’ve taught logic myself, I realize the need to teach others how to think. I don’t know that the church emphasizes learning how to think. Why do you think this is imperative?
Question Three
Let’s have some fun: What top three fallacies do you see committed online? I’ll share some too and we’ll see what we’re experiencing out there.
Question Four
Romans 12:2 says be transformed by the renewing of your mind. I know this is done by the Holy Spirit, but what is the responsibility of Christians to transform their minds?
Question Five
Let’s face it, families are going to have to be intentional when it comes to teaching their kids logic. What are some immediate things families can do together to make this happen? And/or you can provide your top 3 resources.
