Season: 13 Episode: 186
Summary:
With culture encouraging women to find their purpose outside the home, SAH moms feel undervalued and under appreciated. But what does the Bible say? Shanda and her mom, Susan, talk about the ministry of motherhood. They share what that means and why a mom is the biggest influence in a child’s life, the sacrifices it takes to be there for your kids and why diligence is the key word in parenting.

I have one of the most special guests I’ve ever had on the podcast (besides my husband, Dean) and that is my mom, Susan. Today, we are discussing the ministry of motherhood and I thought who better to have on the podcast talking about this than my mom. She is the reason I love Jesus, and not only that, she made me a lover of truth. She instilled convictions and values into my life because she always told me and my siblings that we were her ministry.
I’m going to have her introduce herself a little more and just so you all know …I call my mom mama. So that’s what you’re going to hear today.
Question One
I think it’s important to note that you had three kids by the age of 21 and didn’t go to college until we were older. What was difficult about that and what was fulfilling about the choice to raise us that way?
Question Two
You told us you used to pray that God would give you a ministry and one day you realized your ministry was raising your kids. What do you mean that motherhood is a ministry?
Question Three
The mainstream narrative is becoming more and more about women fulfilling their purpose but the irony in that message is that it’s never connected to being a wife and mother. What is the danger in that kind of narrative?
Question Four
It’s becoming harder and harder for moms to stay home with their kids these days. Some are single mothers (there are a lot of absent fathers), the cost of living is high. What would you say are the three most important things for moms to do for their kids.
Question Five
One of my favorite teachers told me that motherhood is about quality not quantity. Do you agree with this statement?
Question Six
How would you encourage women to find purpose in being a wife and mom in our current culture?
