Season: 13 Episode: 186
Summary:
If you watched the presidential “debate” or saw clips of it, you should know you didn’t actually see a debate. With one liners and zesty zingers, everyone seems to be fine with candidates with vibrant personalities rather than solid policies. What does that say about the minds of the American people? Kathy Gibbons, thinking expert and host of the Filter It Through A Brain Cell podcast, is on the show to tell us. We listen to examples of interviews with Kamala Harris, and memes by Donald Trump to evaluate why we must learn to think well, especilly before we vote.

About Kathy
Kathy is a 13-year homeschool mom, business owner, Bible study creator, speaker and podcast host. She is the host of the Filter It Through A Brain Cell podcast.
She and her family recently moved to Texas, where they’re learning what ranch life is all about. Kathy hopes to get donkeys one day, and still does her daily walks with her dog, Ted.
Question One
You made a great point on your social media page last week that what we saw during the presidential debate wasn’t actually a debate. Can you tell us why?
Question Two
From my assessment, Americans seem to be happy when their candidates pull off one-liners. Why do you think we don’t require more from our candidates by way of policy and good reasons why we should vote for them? What does our acceptance of debate outcomes like we’ve seen in recently years say of how we think?
Question Three
What are some of the examples of bad thinking you’ve seen so far during this political season?
Question Four
When we watch the news or listen to interviews, how do we analyze and critically think through what the candidates are saying and what they’re not? (I want to play a clip of Kamala Harris’ recent interview with ABC6 here. They asked her how she’s different than Joe Biden and she started off by saying, “I grew up middle class.” She then proceeds to say her neighbors liked their lawns.
