“Are you not the God in Heavens, Ruler over all the kingdoms? Power and might are in your hands. So no one can stand against you!”
How many times have your heard the words “I don’t know what to do”?
Over the past few months I have said those same words to my self over and over again.
We definitely live in uncertainty. Just when I feel like I’m finally understanding what’s expected of me (in this COVID stuff) the rules are changed.
“I don’t know what to do!”
I own a wedding venue that has been closed since February 29th. We’ve pushed back all the spring weddings and even cancelled some. Now we’re looking at losing our fall.
“I don’t know what to do”!
In April our grandson, Trenton, wrote music for his guitar. What’s so great about that is he just started playing a few months before. We wanted him to write lyrics but he wasn’t interested. He said that’s not his thing.
During that same time I felt God urging me to study and write my thoughts on, 2 Chronicles 20. I love this story about Jehoshaphat. One part in particular stood out to me. In verse 12 Jehoshaphat said “Nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” That’s what I’ve been saying!! I don’t know what to do!
When you breakdown the chapter a few things stand out.
In verse 3:
Jehoshaphat turned his attention toward The Lord. To turn your ATTENTION means to direct your thoughts, communication (prayer) even your eyes towards something. Too much of the time, the problems consume our thoughts and we look to other things for help, instead of God.
In verse 5:
Jehoshaphat proclaimed who God is. He said, “Are you not the God in Heavens, Ruler over all the kingdoms? Power and might are in your hands. So no one can stand against you.” Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of who God Is!
In verse 7:
Jehoshaphat stated what God has done in the past. What has God done for you? Write it down and proclaim it! He has done exceedingly abundant more that I could ever ask or think!
In verse 8:
Jehoshaphat stated what they expect God to do: “Should evil come upon us, the sword, pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before Thee and cry to Thee in our distress and You will hear and deliver us” The land was a promise to the descendants of Abraham. It was their land given to them by God. They expected God to help. They learned this from their parents, grandparents and others. Because they already heard what He could do, they knew what to expect.
Who are you telling about what God has done, is doing and will do for you?
In verse 9:
Jehoshaphat proclaimed “We are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do but our eyes are on Thee.” That is where I am right now. Lord I don’t know what to do but my eyes are on you; I don’t know how to pray but I cry out any way!
But that’s the best place to be. God is still in control. He never changes.
In verse 15:
God spoke through Jahaziel. “Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but the Lords!” Does it get any better that that?
In chapters 17-22 basically Israel just needed to sing praises and watch. When you’re in the middle of a battle sing praises to God. Then watch and see what only He can do.
Lyrics to “Our Eyes Are on You”
I spoke about my grandson writing music, well I wrote the lyrics. My hope is my other grandson, Wyatt will sing this song.
Song: I will wait
When the enemy comes in and he whispers in your ear,
When the enemy comes in and he fills your heart with fear,
When the darkness closes in and there’s struggles all around,
When your paralyzed with fear and your faith can not be found.
We will wait for you, til the answer comes,
We will wait for you, til the victory’s won.
When the battle rages on and the storms begin to grow,
When your hope is gone and the scars begin to show,
When you feel your all alone in this dark uncertain world,
Remember He is God and the battle is not yours!
We will wait for you til the answer comes,
We will wait for you til the victory is won.
When we don’t know what to do but our eyes are on you,
And we don’t know how to pray but we cry out anyway,
When we don’t know what to do but our eyes are on you,
And we don’t know how to pray but we cry out anyway!
We will wait…
