Season: 9 Episode: BONUS
Summary:
This is a time-sensitive episode. Why? Because we never thought abortion would be legal 28 days after birth. This is how far we come with relativism – there is no hard line and the line always moves. If we don’t stop it now, how far will it continue to go? is abortion a political issue, and should Christians be concerned? Listen to this episode and decide for yourself.
Quotables:
“When it comes to abortion it’s all oars in. We need everyones voice.”

SB2223
This is definitely something I’m passionate about when it comes to people being aware of what is happening in California as I can say it is hard to know the truth about this bill here in California. Googling the bill will result in “fact checkers” telling you that it’s not an infanticide bill… but once you poke into the actual reading of the bill and the use of the word “perinatal” you see it for what it is.
I’ve spend alot of time and relied upon solid resources such as Pacific Justice Institute, https://www.californiafamily.org/ab2223/, etc. to help me understand the ramifications of the bill. For me, that was step 1. What is this bill? Step 2. How do I help people understand what it is, be able to talk about it and fight (prayerfully and as a citizen) against it.
Why does this bill and what happens in California matter?
Why are Christians still staying? This might be helpful because this has been a heart shift for me… some HAVE been called to leave and some have been called to stay but all of us have been called to pray for this state. It needs repentance and revival. The Lord had to soften my heart and break my heart for this state and give me a “missionary mindset” as I continue to live here and raise my kids here. (Jeremiah 29:7) We talk about everything and we know we don’t fit in but we are here on mission for as long as the Lord calls us here. Would people who are not in CA pray for this state? What happens here does affect the rest of the nation.
I mentioned common misconceptions about the bill:
The media and author of the bill, Buffy Wicks from Oakland has tried to paint those who are saying this bill would lead to infanticide as being alarmist and sensational. The use of the word “Perinatal” adds to the vagueness of things. But basically what this bill would do is it would erase any criminal or felony charges for anyone who is responsible for the death of a newborn in that perniatal time period (in Ca that is up to 60 days post birth). This could be in regards to SIDS, abortion, etc. lots of grey area as to the potential causes of death. It would also make it a illegal and punishable up to $25,000 for someone to investigate that death. I can walk through the bill if that’s helpful and define words and sentences (I’ll have that scripted out more this afternoon and can send that to you).
Push back I get about abortion here from Christians is that:
– The battle here is already lost- CA is too far gone… Newsome has declared that CA will be a sanctuary state for abortion and people from other states have given up on us too. Why fight? My response: what if you engage just one person, put a pebble in their shoe and save ONE life? Was that one life worth it? I bring out the syllagism as most people don’t know why we stand up for life and how our argument is sound. Most on the pro-abortion side have never heard a good argument!
– Don’t aborted babies go to heaven anyways? Why does it matter then? They could have been spared a terrible life on earth. This is the worst argument for not engaging in the pro-life work. Once again, syllagism!
– Guilt and shame over previous abortions… this topic is too hard. This is where the gospel of Jesus has such POWER! So many people, men and women have been touched by abortion — but they don’t have to walk in shame or regret.
– Don’t want to be political – why are you bringing politics up? – This is a life issue
BIGGEST ONE:
I am afraid of the pushback, the vitriol – I am not a pro-life apologist! (can’t you just talk for me?!) This is the one I get ALOT! People may be pro-life but when pressed (and you get pressed HARD here!) they don’t know what to say. So they say nothing. This is when I teach them the basica syllagism. I walk them through SLED and help them get resources like The Case for Life book or tell them to listen to a podcast with Scott Klusendorf. I also tell them that they don’t have to win an argument! They just have to put a pebble in a shoe. They also don’t have to speak before a large crowd, but start at your dinner table, talk to your friend while you’re on a walk… who is in your sphere? Right now it’s in the news, so take advantage of it… if you talk in a non-aggressive way and present a different view point with a clear argument and facts you’re not being aggressive.
